Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. “Johnny,” she said quietly, “your mother is here to see you.”
Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, then they darkened. “I don’t want to see her,” he said firmly.
It was too late the nurse had already let Johnny’s mom in. At first Ponyboy and TwoBit said nothing but then Johnny’s mom said “Hey boys, how are you guys doing?”
 They just sat there quietly. Johnny began to sit up but was struggling. Mrs. Cade was walking slowly over to Johnny without saying anything. She tried helping him. Johnny screamed and was wiggling from her grip. “STOP, HELP PONY HELP!”  Said Johnny.

Johnny took the bag of saline and the needle and poked a hole in the bag and through it at his mom, then welded the knife like he did the night we were jumped. “STAY BACK I DON’T LOVE YOU NO MORE”

    You started out strong and then took a turn towards...weird? That ending. Wow.
