Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

         As I see Johnny the nurse comes in. “Johnny it’s your mother.” The nurse said. “Send her in.” Johnny said. “WHAT WAS THAT JOHNNY!” his mother yelled. I saw his confusion and then said, “Was it my fault for wanting to save some kids you drunk woman?!?!?!?!?!?!?” I just stood there not saying anything.

   He lost her at drunk. “Well good luck on your life. You’re the worst son I had EVER had.” His mother said about ready to cry. They had never argued like that, I heard it out in the lot. “I really enjoy it when your dad beat you with his belt.” She was crying her eyes out. She was just about to walk out. She went to Two-bit and kissed him on the mouth.                                                                          After that she went to me and just slapped me in the face. “This is all your fault,” Johnny’s mother said furiously.
