Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

I think the book The Outsiders is appropriate for readers at home and in school that are in 8th grade or above. All though it does talk about smoking, alcohol and broken homes. It does teach a lesson that if you choose the life of a greaser you will go through many problems get in rumbles, fights, possibility of dying, smoking and drinking addiction, getting in trouble with the cops and your friends and family could be in danger. Overall I think even though people want it banned because it talks about broken homes drugs alcohol and gang violence. By showing kids these problems they will understand the consequences of being a greaser or a socs and will realize that it’s not a good life to live and hopefully they will choose a different path.
