Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

The outsiders!
A nurse appeared I the door way.  “ johnny ” she said quietly, “your mother is here to see you”
I quickly opened my eyes real wide and then I said “my mom is here”. My eyes went black and dark “I didn’t want to see her “ I said to myself”. I told the nurse “I don’t want to see her”.
But she is your mother johnny the nurse said. I raised my voice “I DON’T WANT TO SEE HER”.
All she probably came here for is how much trouble iv been making and how happy she and her old man will be when im dead, or old enough to move out, or whenever I don’t show up at home anymore.
 I don’t want to see her tell her “I don’t want to see her I never want to see her”. –his voice broke- “for once leave me alone”. I was struggling to sit up, but I gasped for air and whiter than pillowcase, and I passed out cold.
 The nurse hurried my friends out the door one of my friends said “I was afraid of something like this if he saw anyone.”
