Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

"Your mothers here johnny do you want to see her". The nurse said. Tell i said no i don't want to be yelled at right now. Johnny said. The nurse let johnny's mother in the room anyway. "Sorry johnny." the nurse said. Johnny's mother came in the room. She seemed drunk. Johnny was angry she let her in.

"What do you want." Johnny said.

"i wanted to check on you."  His mom said.

"No you didn't your just drunk." Johnny said.

Maybe but don't be mad at me because your mistake."  His mom said.

"I wouldn't of ran away if you weren't so mean and didn't let dad hit me you use to say we could leave when ever now your now better than him." Johnny said.

"I always knew you were a mistake johnny and i want you to know i didn't want you."  His mom said.

"bye johnny and don't think about coming to the house."  His mom said.

She walked out of the room and everyone was silent and johnny fell asleep.          46WORDS

A nurse appeared in the doorway. "Johnny," she said quietly, "Your mother's here to see you." Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, then they darkened. "I don't want to see her," He said firmly. "She's your mother." She said as his mother burst into the room screaming, "He is my son and i have the right to see him." , "GET OUT," Johnny screams. She freezes .... "Johnny i'm sorry," His mother says. "Leave I don't want you here." He said painfully as he passed out

The Outsiders is a novel by S. E. Hinton set in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. This novel is about two gangs the socs and the greasers and there rival. I think that The outsiders should be allowed in the 8th grade.
A couple reasons is that is explains where some people come from or came from. This has a valuable lessons to it. I think its a good book  because I like to know what it was like back then in 1960s. Some people say its a bad book because it has drugs in it when its talking about cigarettes not like weed. also like when they say get stoned they mean drunk. you just have to use ur brain and look close and stop and think. they say it has strong language or slang usage. who cares he said damit  twice guess what you act like you have never heard that word at home its the 21st century. the narrator of the story talks about how he don't even like to drink. Then theres violence who cares it don't describe how bloody shoots out and is pooring out his head and give every detail. the book has to have action some where.
iits a good book and there for should be allowed at school. It is a really good book. I would have my kids read this book when ever they learned to read.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. “Johnny,” she said quietly, “your mother’s here to see you.”

Johnny opened his eyes. At first were wide with surprise, then they darkened. “I don’t want to see her,” he said firmly.

   “She’s your mother.”

“I said I don’t to see her.” His voice was rising. “She’s probably come to tell me about all the trouble I’m causing her and about how glad her and the old man’ll be when I’m dead. Well, tell her to leave me alone. For once”-his voice broke- “for once just to leave me alone.” He was struggling to sit up, but he suddenly gasped, went whiter than the pillowcase, and passed out cold.

The nurse hurried me out the door. “I was afraid of something like this if he saw anyone.”

The nurse, after rudely rushing us out of the door, walked out and went up front again. I looked into the window and saw Johnny, as still as wood, and as silent as a sleeping baby. As soon as I turn around, the nurse comes up behind me with his mom.  Shoot! Even after he said no until he knocked out, she stabs him in the back.

“Where’s my boy? Where, huh? Johnny!” she gasped, “Johnny, oh Johnny my baby!” She set her hands gently on his face, and seemed to cup his face in them. Then out of nowhere she snapped. “Damn you Johnny! You pathetic little –“ She wrapped her hands around his throat and choking him. The nurse slammed against her and wrapped her arms around her waist. She through her towards the door. Johnny was still out cold and Two-bit and I didn't know what to do.

A nurse came in said your mother is here to see you. My eyes got big I was so surprised I said "let her in" the nurse said "ok I’ll be right back". My mom came in the room and she was just standing there looking at me then she said "are you okay" I said "I guess so thanks what do u want" she said" I wanted to know what where you thinking u could have got killed". I was so confused it's not like she cared anyways. "why do u care", "I just wanted to know you where okay and to apologize for what I put you through. "why all of a sudden u care why didn't you care for me at first" I was just so mad I didn't even want to see her." I'm so mad at you right now I don't even want to talk to you" "I'm so sorry baby I just wanted to know that u where okay I know I haven't been a good mother and I'm sorry for that but I'm here now". "NO I don't want to talk to you anymore get out" but.. "NOW" his mom leave the room in tell the nurse to take good care of her son in she leaves the hospital . I was just siting there thinking should I have done that.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. "Johnny," she said quietly, " your mothers here to see you."
Johnny opened his eyes wide at first but then his face went cold, then said "I don't want to see her," he said firmly.
"She is your mother." The nurse said with a worried voice.
"I said I don't want to see her." his voice was rising at the nurse. "She's probably here to tell me about all the troubles I have caused her and the old man'll be when I'm dead. Well tell her to leave me alone .For once" -his voice broke and it was silent for a minute- then he said "for once just to leave me alone." "he was struggling to sit up, but he sat up after the fifth try to sit up.
The nurse said, "Well I will go let her in and give you some privacy to talk for a little bit then you can rest you have had a long day so far and I don't want you to get all worked up and stressed after your visit with your mother."
"I said I don't want to see her!" Don't you ever listen?" Johnny was furious.
Instead of answering Johnny she turned to open the door and walked out and told his mom that she could see him.

The Outsiders

“Hey Johnny”, Johnny’s mom says quietly.

‘Are you ok”, she said.

Johnny says” Why are you here, you never cared about me before”, he said.

She says “Johnny I’m sorry that I haven’t been there for you”, she said.

“You say that now, now that I might die”, Johnny said.

“Get out of here”, Johnny said.

So Johnny’s ran out the door crying and Johnny passed out cold

and Two-bit and Ponyboy leaves and Two-bit told Johnny’s mom

“You drunk your not Johnny’s mom you drunk”.

Two-bit started to cry and Ponyboy said “Come on Two-bit lets go”.

The nurse said “Johnny are you ok kid.”

Johnny was out cold for a couple hours.

But there was no sign of Johnny’s mom after he yelled at his mom.

"Jonny," the nurse said. "Your mom's here to see you."
"No!" said Jonny. "I don’t want to see her."
"But you have to see her" said the nurse and she let his mom in.
"Why don’t you want to see me"? Jonny’s mom said.
"Because you never treated me good so why would you care now" said Jonny.
"We always cared about you Jonny it’s been a hard time right now" said Jonny’s mom
"So you do love me Jonny" said.

"Yes we always have why else would we have a kid if we didn’t like you"
Said Jonny’s mom.

"Jonny stared to cry but just a little. So when I feel better I can go home"?

"Of course you can said Jonny’s mom you could have always come home".

The Outsiders Is about 2 Different kinds of Gangs the Socs & the Greasers. The Socs are the rich ones. The Greasers are the poor ones. A boy named Ponyboy Lost His Parents at a young age. He Now Lives with His Older Brother Dally & Sodapop. The 3 Boys are all Greasers. They have a gang as well as the Socs.

The Book “The Outsiders” Shouldn’t be banned The Book from Schools or Libraries. Yes, people may disagree because there is violence, but kids In Middle schools should be mature enough to handle it. It’s a very good book as well. The Outsiders Can be a way for kids to see how things were back then & how things are different now.

The Outsiders; Chapter 8

A nurse appeared in the doorway, " Johnny, " she said quietly, " your mother's here to see you. "

Johnny opened is eyes slowly , as they quickly focused on the hospital floor - which is the only thing he can see. " I don't want to see her.. " he said in a horsed voice.

" She's your mother"

" I said I don't want to see her! " Johnny says harshly towards the nurse.

" Okay... " says the nurse timidly. " I'll just be waiting...by the door, " taking a step back, she turned around and grabbed the curtain - pulling it along its railing an closing it. Giving the three boy's privacy that they needed.

" You okay, Johnny? " says Ponyboy, looking at his friend in concern.

" Yeah, your not looking so good.. " says Two-bit. Inhaling sharply Johnny closed his eyes, not wanting to look at the plain hospital floor anymore. So many feelings went through his heart at that moment. Wanting to let these ' kind ' of feelings out, Johnny decided to talk.

" Ye- " but, before he could say anything, they all heard this loud banging and screaming coming from behind the curtain.

" Mrs. Cade! " yelled the nurse, " Your not allowed back here! "

" I WANT TO SEE HIM! " screamed Johnny's one and only mother. Ponyboy, being the kind and 14 year old boy he is, took a protective stance in front of Johnny as Two-bit went up to the pale blue hospital curtain and pulled back. Reveling a scene of shock, horror and disgust. The pretty nurse who have been loving enough to give them privacy was now trashed, as her hair was everywhere, her dress printed with mudded handprints, and no shoe on her right foot. While on the other side of the door Mrs. Cade's face and arms were gripping the door and preventing it from closing.

" JOHNNY! "  she cried out, " Let me him see my boy! "

" Mrs.Cade, please, you need to stop " pleaded the poor nurse who was trying her best to keep her from coming in. As if on cue Two-bit heard the desperation in the nurses voice and came running over to her, both pushing the door back.

" HOW DARE YOU FILTHY RATS! " screamed Johnny's mother, clawing at both Two-bit and the nurses face. " Johnny! Johnny tell Them! Tell them you want to see me! "

" Go away... "

" What? "

" I. Said. Go. Away! " Johnny yelled at the top of his lungs. With the tiny bit of strength he had in him, Johnny grabbed onto the edges of his hospital - his knuckles turning white as he lifted himself up and his breathe coming out in pants. " I never asked for you to be here, not once, " he said as he glared right at his mother, " So why don't  you go back to that rotting, alcohol filled house you call home, because I'm sure as hell not! " Johnny's last words bounced off the hospital walls, echoing through out the whole room and everybody's head.

" WHY YOU LITTLE SH- "

" Looks like is time for the monster of a mother to leave, Mrs.Cade! " said Two-bit has he pushed her head and hand out the door, and then slamming it shut before she could get in. The nurse quickly locked the door, twice. Sighing heavily, Johnny closed his eyes to the demand of heavy eyelids, collapsing on his hospital bed - face first.

" Johnny! " yelled both Ponyboy and Two-bit at the same time, as they came running to his side.

" Johnny," Ponyboy said as he lightly touched the back of his friend's arm, " Hey, come on Johnny, you can't do this to me right now "

" Yeah, Johnny boy... , " says Two-bit, " You can't do this to us right? " Both boys on the verge of tears stared at their best friends burnt and blooded back - waiting for an answer, any answer.

" Right... " Johnny quietly mumbled. Gasping in surprise, Two-bit jumped and cheered in joy as PonyBoy sighed in relief.

' Thanks for staying strong, Johnny... '

In class, we read 'The Outsiders' and I believe it should not be banned from schools and/or libraries.
The book presents good messages for kids to learn. Such as dealing with loss, independency, etc.

One reason someone wants to ban it is because of the drug use. Even though people and/or kids are surrounded by drugs and alcohol. It also romanticizes the idea of running away.

But other than that, its a great book.
A nurse appeared in the doorway. "johnny," she said quietly, "your mother's here to see you."
Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with a surprise, then they darkened. "I don't want to see her," he said firmly.  " I mean ofcoure she was going to see me when I was in a hospital bed." Johnny said.
" Hi johnny how are you doing and im very sorry that you're going through this." Johnnys mom said.
"Going away I know you don't care, you only here cause im dying on a hospital bed" said johnny.
" Johnny I do care." im very sorry that I haven't been a very good mother to you. I know I should be working on being better mother." she said.
" GO AWAY MOM I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU!" Johnny said screaming.
" Okay fine, but I love you very much Johnny" She said

Some may say that The Outsiders was quite a controversial book when it was released, and it remains so today, that it talks about drugs and alcohol abuse and that it was common and virtually all the characters were from broken homes, that it has a portrayal of gang violence, underage drinking, strong language, slang usage, and expose on family dysfunction.

The Outsiders actually is about  the Greasers and the Socs. they don't do drugs.
The book "outsiders" by S.E Hinton should not be banned from schools or libraries.

I think the outsiders should not be banned from schools or libraries, because the outsiders isn't a bad book its really good. What I mean by that is the outsiders isn't that violent, it has a couple parts that they fight, but it isn't that serious. There's also smoking, but the kids in this book are older, So they should know not to do that.

Some may argue that this book has cuss words, smoking, drinking, and fighting.
But this book shows the truth, how things really are, its real. That kind of stuff really happens. The main character is against all of this stuff.

In conclusion the book the ''outsiders'' should not be banned from middle schools because its a youth fiction book and its the right level for middle school kids.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. “ Johnny,” she said quietly, “your mother’s here to see you.” Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, then they darkened. “ I don’t want to see her,”  he said firmly.

“She’s your mother.”
As the nurse walked out Johnny’s mother walked in. His mother walked over to him and said “Look what you’ve done now, how’d you manage to get yourself in this mess." It wasn't my fault I had to help those kids. If I wouldn't have went into the fire to save those kids they all would've died , but thanks to me I got everyone out safely. "Well at least you did something that kept people from suffering the loss of all those innocent kids."

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton should not be banned from schools or libraries. I think that The Outsiders is a great book for young adults because it shows teenagers that even though there is always going to be social groups that at the end of the day they are all people and they are all the same. Its a book that almost anyone can relate to. This book brought me closer to my parents because it made me think that I could lose them at any time and to appreciate them while I can so that my brothers don't have to take care of me.
Although some may say that this book should not be aloud at school because it shows kids doing drugs or alcohol abuse . However the main character describes why he doesn't like the taste of alcohol and why you shouldn't do any of it.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. “Johnny,” she said quietly, “your mother is here to see you.” Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, and then they darkened. “I don’t want to see her,”

            “She’s your mother.”

“Well I’m letting her in anyway its not healthy to have a bad relationship with your mother.” The nurse said. As she walked in Johnny actually noticed she might have been crying. "Could It be possible that she actually was worried for me"? I felt like someone actually wanted me. she walked up to my bed and stood in silence for a good 30 seconds. She told me that she was proud of me. She was sorry for everything she had put me through. I just thought wow so she did care for me just a little.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. “Johnny,” she said quietly, “your mother’s here to see you.” Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, then they darkened. “I don’t want to see her,” he said firmly.

“She’s your mother.”

“Johnny” his mother said softly, “What do you want from me ? You never cared anyways.” Johnny said carelessly.  She began to cry “I have always cared, I wasn’t ready for the responsibility of being a mother. I never knew how to take care of you or what to do with myself. I’ve always thought I’d never be a good enough mother for you.” She replied “ That doesn't mean you had to constantly verbally and physically abuse me. Along with always putting me down." Johnny screamed.
" It was wrong of me I know." his mother argued. " Just get out! It's too late for you to act like you care!" Johnny cried. The machine began to beep rapidly. Johnny's Mother screamed "HELP MY SON HELP PLEASE HELP!!!"
Doctors rushed into the room. The doctors began " He's dead He didn't have much time left. He just couldn't fight anymore. I'm sorry for your loss." "I'm sorry Johnny I was never there for you I love you my son." Johnny's mom whispered helplessly.
In class we are reading the Outsiders by S.E Hinton. Some people think that the Outsiders should be banned from schools and libraries. I believe that the Outsiders should be banned because it shows real life things that could happen.
some reasons people think the book should be banned because it includes things like drugs and alcohol. Another reason would be it portrayals gang violence and underage smoking and drinking .
I believe it should not be banned because it shows real world situation in life that could really happen. Another reason would be  that it’s a good book that a teenage kids could like. Last reason would be because it’s a good book.

Some may say that the Outsiders should be banned from schools or libraries. I think the outsiders is educational because the poem that Pony said to Johnny, but before Johnny died he told pony to stay gold. The way Johnny explained it was when Johnny about died. he said to stay gold and never give up watching sunsets in a letter.

All there drugs are only cigarettes which they smoke for different reasons. They smoke because of there parents dying. They don't mention drugs or alcohol use in the book. They only give heaters (guns) to kids and that teaches kids not to kill other people.

Therefore the Outsiders should not be banned from libraries or schools because its educational. You learn how to be or not to be different people. If you really read this and fully under stand it then its educational. If you don't think so then take it out. its based on a true story because of the author.

the outsiders is a novel by S. E. Hinton it's set in Tulsa Oklahoma. It's  about two gangs the greasers and the socs. some people say that is shows a dysfunctional family. My response is that not every family is a happy one. another reason is they say it has drug and alcohol abuse. If they mean cigarettes as "drugs" that is kinda dumb. the third reason is that it shows that all of the virtually characters are  f rom broken homes
Should The Outsiders be banned form schools or libraries?
I think they should not because The Outsiders is a theme in itself. Looking at life as an outsider and feeling as though one is being treated as an outsider is a matter of one's point of view. Teenagers typically consider themselves as adults, but in reality teens are still under control of others telling them how to live their lives.
The main character, Ponyboy sees injustice on a daily basis. His parents are dead, Darry works 2 jobs to support the brothers, Sodapop has dropped out of school and Greasers are looked upon as white trash.
People want to ban it because it provided drugs and violence

SHOULD THE OUTSIDERS BE BANNED FROM SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES?

The Outsiders is a novel by S.E Hinton. the book follows two rival groups, the greasers and the socs, who, divided by their dissimilar socioeconomic status, hold on to what they can amid the turbulent social changes of the 1960's.

I think the Outsiders should not be banned from schools and libraries because despite the use of cigarettes and alcohol it is a great book that shows the troubles of many kids in the sixties. this book is very interesting and it gives kids the chance to learn that many kids have a hard time at home with many different reasons why. Also the book teaches children to not smoke and drink by showing what horrible things happen when drink and smoke.

Many people think the Outsiders should be banned from schools and libraries for many reasons. the most popular reason is the use of "drugs" and alcohol. The next reason is that virtually all the characters are from broken homes. Another reason is that there was a lot of gang violence and strong language. The last reason is that children are being exposed to things they are not prepared for and for it's "unchristian values"
In "The Outsiders" the main protagonist is Ponyboy Curtis. A local gang member of The Greasers.
A Greasers life is pretty rough... They constantly getting jumped by their rival gang The Socs.

Some people want to ban this book because they think its to violent. There is use of tobacco and alcohol by mostly everyone in the book. Some say the book proposed fighting as the solution

However I think the book should not be banned, it teaches young kids what can happen if you choose the life of a "thug". Sure some kids should not be able to read the book but I don't think that the book should be banned for everyone.
The Outsiders is written by S.E.Hilton. It is about two rival gang separated by their social statics the Socs and the Greasers. The book is a very good an is for older kids but it shouldn't be banned and I got one reasons why.

One reason is that it is a very good book because it has a story line, suspense, drama, action, and good wording. This book has a lot of stuff a good book should have.

Some people say the book should be banned from schools and libraries because it has violence and inappropriate stuff in it.

The Outsiders shouldn't be banned from schools and libraries because it is very good book and if you don't want kids to read it then don't put it in the kids section. Why ban it some people don't like it some people mite like.
The outsiders was created by S.E. Hinton who lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. she created the book when she was 15 and was gave a second chance to pass language arts class. The  novel was  publish when she was 18 in 1967. The book has two groups that hate each other Greasers and the Socs. the Socs are the rich kids with a lot of nice things, the Greasers are below middle class and get jumped by Socs.

Many people think that this book should be banned from schools district, because drugs , alcohol abuse was common and virtually all the characters were from broken homes. I think that this book should not be banned from school curriculums it may have gang violence drugs alcohol abuse and more, it is not all a bad book there is some points it try's to make, like you should not be like everyone you else and stay your self.

kids in elementary school in fresco, California wrote a letter about the outsiders after reading it. it was turned into a movie.
In class we are reading this book called The Outsiders . we are debating wither it should be banned or not . I think it should be banned for kids ages 11 and under . I believe this because some parents might feel that their kids are not ready to be exposed to the type of stuff that takes place in the book . some people want to band this book because it portrays gang violence , under age drinking and smoking , strong language , slang usage and expose of family dysfunction . I believe it should only be banned for kids 11 and under because they wouldn't understand and it wouldn't be okay to expose them to that type of stuff at such a young age .
A nurse appeared in the door way.” Johnny”   she said quietly, your mothers here to see you. Johnny opened his eyes to his mother standing right next to him. Johnny said what are you doing here, please go. But sweetie I’m here to apologize. Oh okay. Yes I’m sorry for all the trouble I put you through I didn't mean to do it it’s just I want you to be successful in life. I’m actually happy that you came, I’m… sorry to for putting you through hell. Johnny don’t curse. I’m sorry it’s just… that I really mean it. Okay will are you okay. Yes I’m fine I’m just really tired that's all. I'm going through all of this, and theirs a lot of things happening so fast......and... mom..... I'm really sc- scared. then all of a sudden my monitor started beeping then all I saw was black.
I think The Outsiders should be banned from schools or libraries because they doing drug and drinking alcohol and say inappropriate words. The Outsiders was challenged in south Milwaukee, Wisconsin for its inclusion on an eighth grade reading list because there is drugs and alcohol abuse was common and virtually all the characters were from broken homes. The Outsiders ahs been banned from some schools and libraries because of its portrayal of gang violence, underage smoking and drinking, strong language, slang usage, and expose on family dysfunction.

The Outsiders was challenged in the Boone, Iowa School District because the book was seen as glamorizing smoking and drinking and uses excessive violence and obscenities. The Outsiders was challenged in 2001 at George Washington Middle School in Eleanor, West Virginia due to objections to the focus on gangs and gang fights. The parents generally objected, claiming that their children are being exposed to things they aren't prepared for and insist schools pull it from their curriculums; some also say  it promotes "unchristian values" and site its lack of adult role models.

The Outsiders was started when Hinton was 15 and finished at when she was 18. S.E. Hinton wrote it in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. The books was about soc and greasers.

The Outsiders should not be band from schools and libraries because it a good book and it teaches you how some peoples life is. It was ranked #43 out of lots of books. Its not a bad or harmful book , parents might say they don’t want their kids to read it because it has drugs or underage kids that smoke and drink and gangs but kids already know even if they seen it in a book , they already know . it also teaches then that its scary to be in gangs which well make them not want to be in a gang .

A friend of mine has been through the same thing like pony boy and his brothers they went through losing their parents and so did my friend. They were in gangs and dropped out of school to work so they wouldn’t get separated.
The outsiders is a novel by S.E. Hinton set in Oklahoma in 1965. The outsiders should be banned because it has drugs, alcohol abuse, gang, violence, underage smoking and drinking. The outsiders is unchristian values, lake of adult role models.

It also should be banned because the book is exposing kids to things they are not ready for.
also because all the characters are from broken homes. And because they all have diffusional homes. it also has strong language and drinking.

looking life as an outsider  and feeling as being the though one being treated as an outsider is a madder of ones point of view. After reading the outsiders I've looked back to what I've gone though. and I can relate to some of it because of my past and its rough.

The Outsiders

I believe that the outsiders are somewhat both inappropriate and appropriate. It is inappropriate because there is a lot of violence, cigarettes, and alcohol. S.E Hinton made this book for a school assignment so she didn’t include a lot of inappropriate things because she wasn’t allowed to. I believe it is appropriate because it teaches kids about the outside world and there are people that have to steal to get around in the world. If you’re in elementary school you shouldn’t read this book. If you’re in middle school in my opinion you are ready for this book.

                                                                 The Outsiders

The Outsiders is a novel by S.E. Hinton set in, Oklahoma in 1965. The outsiders should be banned because it has drugs and alcohol abuse. also portrayal of gang violence, underage smocking and drinking. Excessive violence, obscenities. The Outsiders is unchristian values, lack of adult role models.

It also should be banned because it children are exposed to things they aren't prepared for. The Outsiders has strong language, expose family dysfunction. Characters in the Outsiders have broken homes. Glamorizing smocking and drinking. Looking at life as an outsider and feeling as though one is being treated as an outsider is a matter of one's point of view.

Looking at life now from the book I have experienced someone drinking an smoking and I understand how they feel now.  Drinking and smoking can change a person like they could be happy one moment and angry the next moment. The world will always have drugs and alcohol.

Should The Outsiders Be Banned?

The Outsiders is a book written by S.E Hilton. The Outsiders is about a boy named Ponyboy, who talks about his life and the lives of Greasers and Socs. In which they are opposing sides, as Socs are rich and carefree as Greasers are poor and are stuck in trouble a lot based off of assumptions and other information. The Outsiders is a controversial book, as some people believe it is not age appropriate for schools and library's as it talks about gangs, has drugs and other issues in which are very touchy with people.

However, I believe The Outsiders should be allowed in todays youth. The issues in which Ponyboy talks about helps kids understand and comprehend other peoples lives, as they may not have to deal with some of his issues. The book helps kids connect to issues of society in a way a person may not of seen before. It opens up the student to the life of poverty, adolescents, and the scenes of home issues (such as family dysfunctions). It helps them learn to not judge people just by how they act, as the Soc Cherry Valance tells Ponyboy "Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset." and that "Things are rough all over." Saying in which everyone has issues no matter what part they live in, just issues are different. And even with everything different they are not so far unalike. They all aren't determined based off of "Greaser" or being a "Soc" and that is a important moral people need to learn and live based off of.

People say that the book contains "drugs", however, the only drugs that are used are cigarettes and maybe a little bit about drinking. In which people of society are exposed to, as there are posters all over saying no smoking, places that sell alcohol, and schools talk about how drugs are negative and shouldn't be used off a young age in which is implanted in our youths brains today. They also say the book uses excessive violence and obscenities. However, the movies that are made for kids have an equal amount of violence in cartoons, and other stuff in which youth own today. The obscenities is barely any, in which they use innocent terms to make the book more appropriate for youth to read. The book gives a lot of life lessons in which kids can learn off of, and should be able to read this book without adults objecting the book over smaller parts of the book instead of not seeing the bigger picture of the book. Even at the end of the book, when Johnny accidently killed someone, he still went in a church in a self sacrifice to save children from a fire. He became paralyzed of a broken back, and had not long to live. He had a life full of abuse and other situations, but yet tells the narrator to "Stay gold,"  telling him to stay pure and don't turn cold because of the societies of the world. These are lessons children of todays society need to learn. This is why the book shouldn't be banned.
In class we are reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. It is about a Greaser named Ponyboy. The Greasers and the Socs don't get along because the Socs are rich and the Greasers are poor. Society thinks Socs are good kids but in reality, they always antagonize the Greasers and beat them up.

I don't think this book should be banned in schools or libraries. When people say it talk about drugs they're talking about cigarettes. Ponyboy doesn't like cigarettes and he doesn't tell kids to smoke them. If kids don't learn about dysfunctional families in school, where are they going to learn about it? They need to know about it. People say that it has "strong language" but if they actually read the book, it says three cuss words. Even though alcohol abuse is common, the main character tells us that he hates alcohol and he doesn't promote it.

Kids will need to know about the real world and The Outsiders is a good way to teach them about it.
The Outsiders is a novel by S.E Hinton. The book is about two rival gangs, the Greasers and the Socs who are separated by different social classes.

I don't think the outsiders should be banned. I think this because it has a lot of themes and life lessons in the story and that people overreact to the bad things in the story.

First, the story has a lot of life lessons. In the book it talks about subjects like the innocence in people and to not judge by how people look. In the story, Ponyboy is seen as a uneducated, dirty greaser who doesn't know anything except robbing and fighting. But in all reality Ponyboy is a smart kid who likes drawing and poetry.

Lastly, some of the things that people overreact to is not that bad. In a article, it says that the book should be banned for "drug use and strong language", but in the book, the only drug they are talking about is cigarettes and the only strong language is the word dammit and that was only twice.

On the other hand, there is underage drinking. However, the main character does not think that drinking is a good thing and stays away from it.

The Outsiders is a great book that shows that friendship can go a long way and I would read this and I do not think this should be banned from schools or libraries.
                                                             The outsiders by S.E. Hilton

In class we are reading the book the outsiders. I think some books should be banned because if they have gang violence, drugs and other things should be banned from schools. Because if the little kids read it then it will teach them that is a good thing to do and then they will start doing it and bad things will happen. The book is good and kids can read it but if the gang violence and the drugs and others it would be a good book for kids in middle school.
Some people think the outsiders should be banned because of its gang violence I think it should be banned if its having gang violence . You shouldn't have to deal with violence period . Why I also think it should be banned because they was doing underage smoking and drinking . you shouldn't be smoking or drinking at a young age . You should be waiting till your a adult and old enough to smoke .there were also gang fights and gang fight are not right at all you should never be having a bunch of people get together to jump somebody because that's what gangs are . In my opinion they should be banned because of all the stuff that happens the gang fights the smoking drinking and all the violence that happens .They should banned all the  stuff that happens . that's just my opinion .
The book "The outsiders" by : S.E Hinton should not be banned from schools.

I think the outsiders should not be banned, because its a good book to teach teens to stay together through bad or good. through death or living. yes it might have some things that aren't age good for younger kids, but for teens its a very good book. From reading this book I have learned to appreciate your parents when you have them with you. And to have a good relationship with your parents cause you never know when your not going to see them or when you might not see them again.
If i was a teacher i would defiantly give this book to my class to read. i honestly love the book. Its made me realize that i should love all the people who matter to me and help them out with anything they need. And encourage them to do better with their life. And that weather their dying on a hospital bed or getting in fights, im always going to be there for them.

The book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton should be banned. In all the book has some very good lessons but, certain parts are terrible. The book follows the plot of two rival groups from different social classes. They have quite a few run ins and through out more problems build up until it explodes.
This book is inappropriate for some kids, Even though the "drugs" are only cigarettes and they don't really drink. There are many other situations that make it inappropriate. For example, they all come from broken homes. Also there is gang violence and fighting between kids. This sets a bad example for kids who read this book and they then will think its okay to do these things to others. It glamorizes smoking many other things. That is why this book should be banned.
The book The Outsiders is a novel written by S.E Hinton at the age of 15 and got published when she was 18 and it was set in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The book contains two rival groups, The Greasers and The Socs.

I think the book The Outsiders shouldn't be banned from libraries nor schools because people need a chance to read the book. Maybe not necessarily really young kids but like teens/adults. It gives a good theme and it shows how poverty, like real life problems can impact on a teen's life. It's perfect for explaining to us that other people have it worse than what we think we do.

David Huck , opinion writing

The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton should not be on the banned book list. Currently in class at Hoyt Middle school, we are reading The outsiders. any people reject the book, saying there is use of drugs and violence, also alcohol abuse and strong language. The "drugs" , the objectors are referring to is cigarettes. Only cigarettes. Many people think of drugs as things like cocaine, only the really harmful things. Also, the abuse of alcohol, but many times the narrator clearly explains that its very harmful, and can mess your life up. only adding to why people shouldn't drink. The strong language is only a couple of words not commonly known as the bad stuff. When the time comes the books for bad language. there is a line blocking it out, or something preventing the reader from actually reading those bad words. There is a lot of violence in this book, but its what really happens in the world. Kids should have an insight about what goes ion around them. The outsiders should be removed from the banned book list, or should never have been put on it in the first place.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. "Johnny," she said quietly, "your mother is here to see you." Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise. then they darkened. "I don't want to see her." "Shes your mother, I am sending her in," the nurse said. "Johnny," his mother said softly, " How did this happen?" "Why would you care?", Johnny said. Johnny's blood pressure was rising quick. "Johnny we want you to come home", away from those hoodlums." Your father got a new job, he is making enough to support us, and to move us out of this place." Johnny suddenly passed out.  "LEAVE NOW", he said. Then, there was a long pause before his monitor flat lined. "NO", his mother cried. "if it wasn't  for the hoodlums he was with, he wouldn't even be in this mess!" A long passed before all turned to normal, but a different kind of normal. Nothing would ever be the same, Johnny was dead.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. “Johnny,” she said quietly, “your mother’s here to see you.”

Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, then they darkened. “I don’t want to see her,” he said firmly.

“She’s your mother.”

“I said I don’t want to see her!” he shouted. “Tell her to leave…”

The nurse stepped aside and in walked his mother. She looked at her son, lying on the hospital bed; dying. Immediately, she starts crying. She collapses on the floor, in fetal position crying.

“Johnny,” she began, “I’m sorry for everything that's ever happened to you. Especially this."

"I don't need your pity." Johnny muttered "GET OUT. NOW. NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!"
"You cannot tell me what to do young man!" she slaps him hard across the face.

"GET OOOOUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTT!" Pony yells and she exits with a smug grin on her face.

The Outsiders should not be banned from school libraries because,
It really is not that violent. It's not even necessarily about drugs either. It is only cigarettes. Nothing to bad.
In the article, " Banned Book Awareness: The Outsiders",  it says that the book was influencing drugs and alcohol usage but, it was not the book influencing that. People in real life influence drug and alcohol abuse. "The Outsiders" is only a story.

In the book its actually telling about why it would be a bad idea to be in a gang or drink or smoke. Its actually kind of setting an example on why you shouldn't do that because it is telling a story of what happens or can happen if you end up in that life situation. It's actually quite educational about teaching wrong from right.

So basically it should not be banned because it isn't as violent as described, It also does not really influence drug abuse and it is educational and informative.

A nurse appeared in the doorway. "Johnny" she said quietly, "your mother's is here to see you."
Johnny opened his eyes. At first they wide with surprise, then they darkened. "I don’t want to see her," he said firmly.
"But she's your mother.."
Then as Johnny mother came through the door.  Johnny's face got cherry red with anger.
"I said I don’t want you in here!!!" Johnny said in a firm voice.
"Johnny calm down..I'm your mother I need to see you." his mother said.
"But you don’t treat me like your son! You are always drunk and yelling! Now you treat me like you care, when I'm in pain. What about all the times you and dad hit me and abuse me! You didn’t care then..why care now. I'm surprised you aren't even drunk now!" Johnny shouted.
"I think you should leave now. He's getting overwhelmed by this. It's not good for him." said ponyboy respectfully.
"Who do you think you're talking to boy?!?!" Johnny mother said. Then Johnny face got really pale, then passed out. Then the nurse walking other to Johnny mother grabbed her arm and said
"It's not healthy for Johnny. You need to leave now!" then the nurse came back in and said in a respectful manner "You boy should leave as well. Johnny needs his rest."
THE OUTSIDERS

A nurse appeared in the doorway. "Johnny, your mother's here to see you."
Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise, then they darkened. "I don’t want to see her," he said firmly.
"I'm going to let her in anyways."
"NOOOOO!!!" Then Johnny grabbed a bottle and threw it at her and then the blood poured on her face.
"what were you thinking idiot do you know what you just did" Ponyboy said.
minutes later Johnny's mom comes in "what were you thinking you could of died" she grabs Johnny by the arm and starts slapping him and beats him intill he is knock out cold. Police officers come and take her away she yells " I hope you know what you have done Johnny.
I than that it is a Yes and No there is some good about it.
there is some bad about it like some kids are children are being exposed to things they aren't prepared and ''drug and alcohol abuse was common and virtually all the characters were from broken homes.''

And the good than about it is that kids will be aware that people do smoking and people do come from broken homes.
They should ban the Outsiders for 12 and under because parents will argue about there children smoking, fighting, and using violence words and they are not old enough to do that and nobody should even try to do that.
For 13 and older they should not ban the Outsiders because they maybe already know how it's like to have a family or friends that done that. Some people already know how it's like to have kids doing violence like gang fighting or smoking.
A nurse appeared in the doorway. " Johnny,' she said quietly " your mother is here to see you"

Johnny opened his eyes. at first they were wide with surprise, and then they darkened.
" I don't want to see her." he said firmly.

 "she's your mother"

" I said  I don't want to see her." his voice was rising. " she probably came to tell me about all the trouble I am causing her and about how glad her and the old man'll be when I'm dead.Well, tell her to leave me alone. for once"-his voice broke-" for once just leave me alone."

the nurse let her in anyway.

She came in and sat beside Johnny.

she said "my poor baby!"

Johnny began to say "I'm not your baby!, you never loved me! and I sure as heck don't love you either!"
 Johnny passed out cold.

his mother said " how come you let those hooligans talk to him? look what they did to him!, they told him not to love me!"

"we did not!, if it is anyone's fault it's yours!, you never acted like you loved him! Ponyboy blurted.

the nurse escorted Ponyboy and Two-bit out.
the outsiders is a novel by S. E. Hinton
A nurse came into the room and said your mother is here to see you. Johnny eye got big and dark he like I don’t want to see her he was thinking to his self she was problem going to say how much trouble he been causing. So when the nurse said she could come in they were talking about   how if he was ok and how  thing were going with him and if he has been taking care of his self and then he was thinking of everything that he had done and regretting it all and when she came in he was so mad he didn't even look at her and he try to hit her in he hit her in her face she started bleeding and she started crying and after words he felt bad for what he had just cause then he was yelling at her but before she left he had fell and hurt his self and his mom try helping him but he did not want his help then she said I love you Johnny he was like get out of my room then she finale left and a few hours he started getting worst couldn't breathe by his self so then later on he could breathe by his self with all of his support that he had when he was up there then he final got to go home with people that cared about him
The Outsiders is a novel by S.E. Hinton. She was 15 when she started writing the novel and 18 when it was published in 1967. The book follows two rival groups, the Greasers which are greasy and poor and the Socs who are rich and soiled.

In my opinion, the Outsiders should not be banned from schools. If you see it my way, the kids are going to learn about the stuff anyway, so it's better sooner than later. Most of them know about it anyway. I could understand if it's banned from a elementary school, but from a middle school? They know about it anyway. The Outsiders is a great book and the reasons that it is banned are understandable, but kids need to learn how life is for some other people. They should know what it feels like to come from a broken home because, when I read this book I really connected with it because it I never knew what it was like to come from a broken home. Now I understand what it feels like. This book is honestly fantastic, it should be rethought about.

In my opinion The Outsiders shouldn't be banned. I don't find nothing wrong with it . It teaches how it was back in the 70's and how dangerous and crazy it use to be .

Lots of kids these are aware of what happens in the streets or in their neighborhood. I grew up with people drink and smoking around me , so when I see someone drinking or smoking it doesn't bother me as much . I've seen people fight all the time and get cops called on them  all the time. I've also seen people with guns and heard gun shots.
A nurse appeared in the doorway, and behind her was Johnny's mother . Johnny began to panic and yell at the nurse telling her "don't let her in ! don't do it please" . The nurse couldn't do anything more but let her in . once Johnny saw his mom it really hit him, how much he really hated her everything she put him through he was furious and all he wanted to do was hit her . Full of anger he asked " why are you even here?" she remained quiet and her eyes began to tear " what are you here to tell me I deserve this? you never cared why are you here all of the sudden?" His mother full of anger back handed him across his face "you don't talk to me like that you hoodlum piece of trash " . Johnny has had enough he had no choice but to defend himself he got up and took a swing at his mother he missed and quickly fell to the ground and passed out cold  . The nurses quickly rushed into the room and the police got ahold of his mother kicking her out as Johnny lye there . The doctors trying all they could but Johnny gave no response .
The book should not be banned because its not the bad of a book and people accuse it of a bad book because is has smoking and cussing but its not that bad because people need to read it to understand it.
Most people are trying to keep it banned I think they should keep it in the libraries  and they should also tell people to let the book try and make it have a different chance or opinion
Johnny was laying it the bed in the hospital and the nurse came into the room and said, Johnny your mom is here, he said I don't want to see her, the nurse said its your mother. then he got made and jumped out he window onto a canapé and ran away. And they never saw him again

A nurse appeared in the doorway, ''Johnny,'' she said quietly, ''your mother is here to see you.''

Johnny opened his eyes and then the nurse let Johnny’s mother in.  Johnny said, '' I don’t want to see her.'' His voice was rising and the nurse finally took her out and he said, ''Tell her to leave me alone for once,'' -his voice broke- ''for once just to leave me alone.'' He was struggling to sit up but he suddenly gasped. Johnny was afraid of something like this if he saw anyone. Johnny wasn't mad at his mother. Then Johnny was taken out to another room away from his mother. Johnny's mother ran at Johnny and Two-Bit stopped her. Johnny was trying to get away from his  Mother.

Johnny’s mom came to the hospital and walked down to Johnny’s room. The nurse came rushing out and almost knocked her down and told her “ ma’am you can’t come in at this moment “ then the nurse left . When Johnny’s mom seen no sign of the nurse she hurry up and went into Johnny’s room .  Johnny was just waking up from his black out when he seen his mom and gasped. “ What are you doing here I ? I thought I told the nurse that I didn’t want to see no sign of you “ ” I know ” said his mom but we need to talk . Talk about what said Johnny ? There’s nothing to about, I don’t like you! And then the nurse walks in .

outsiders banned?

I think the outsiders should not be banned from schools and libraries because, the book is not harmful. the outsiders is a fiction novel written by S.E. Hinton published in 1967. This classic novel was written when Hinton was only 15 years old. The argument that this book should be banned because of references to drug and alcohol abuse and that it uses foul language is silly to me. If anything this novel is very realistic to some people situations living in poor areas. Its something older kids can maybe relate to in their life's.

In 1992 in Boone Iowa school district tried to ban the book because they said it glamorized smoking and drinking, but i disagree. In the time this book was written they didn't know about the affects nicotine has on your health so it is unfair to prosecute the book for that, Also the characters in the book didn't not have a glamorous life one bit they had a hard and difficult life. This book i do agree was not written for younger kids this book was written for a teen audience from a teen girl. The outsiders is a wonderful book to help teens to feel they aren't alone. That life isn't perfect and that is okay, because we still carry on all  the dreamers, the socs, and  greasers.

I think the book should not be banned because it could inspire teens to write their own book in the future. Some may argue that the book is too violent. But teens all around the world already play violent games and violent movies

I think the book The Outsiders should be banned from schools because of it's portrayal of gang violence, underage smoking and drinking, and strong language. Some may argue that the book shouldn't be banned because it inspires looking at life as a outsider and feeling as though is being treated as an outsider is a matter of one's point of view.
