Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

        A nurse appeared in the doorway. "Johnny", she said quietly, "your mother is here to see you".  
 Johnny opened his eyes. At first they were wide with surprise. then they darkened. "I don’t want to see her," he said firmly. 
      "She's your mother", the nurse stepped aside and in walked Johnny's mother.  
      "I said I didn’t want to see her!" He said in a strained voice.  
      "Johnny?" his mother said in a low tone.  
Johnny turned his head away. "What do you want?" Johnny said. 
      "I am here to see how you are doing Johnny".  
      "why do you even care? just go away, I don’t want you here", Johnny protested. 
      "I care because I am your mother".  
      "When have you ever been a mother to me!?!?", Johnny said furious. After a few seconds the monitor started to beep, and Johnny passed out. I wish I would have stopped her.
