Assignment

Your Task: Rewrite the hospital scene where Johnny's mother comes to visit. In your version, the nurse does not turn her away, but lets her in the room. Imagine Johnny's reaction. What would Johnny's mother say to him? What would Johnny say to her?

You are writing part of a narrative, not a script. Sentences, punctuation, and paragraphs should appear the way it would in a book. Use the book or passage above as an example. Pay special attention to the dialogue and how the author starts a new paragraph each time she changes speakers.

When his mother came into the room, Johnny sat up and stared at her with tears in his eyes.
“I said I didn’t want her in here.” Johnny said.

“Johnny, I’m so sorry for everything and you know I am. It even hurts me to see you like this.”

Johnny laid there, crying and wouldn’t stop. I started to feel bad for him but awhile, they started talking and got along.

“Well, it felt good to catch up but I have to get home.. Get well and remember. Be careful Johnny. I love you.” Johnny’s mom said.
Johnny replied, “okay mom. I love you too. Let dad and the rest of the family know I’m okay. I love you all. Goodbye. I hope to see you soon.”
